I use a Silverstone DS380 + Asrockrack E3C224D4I-14S board. It has built in LSI 2308 which I already use for the 8x HDD.

Want to add a HBA card for the SSDs for esxi passthrough, but it will probably need to be small since space is super limited.

Any cards that are short & low profile?

You would need at most an 8 port card to be low profile, also known as half hight. The 9207-8i and the 9211-8i are both 8 port. They are both roughly 170mm long. They both have the SAS connectors on the end making them longer with cables attached. However, the Dell H200 I believe is a rebranded 9211-8i and was built for the Power Edge servers. This makes it have the connecters on the side. You can find them already flashed or you can get a H200 and flash it your self. You could also pick up a Intel RES2SV240 SAS 2 Expander or something similar and connect it to your onboard HBA, power it off of molex, and mount it anywhere. It doesn't have to be plugged into a p-cie slot..

I like the H200 design since the SAS ports are not at the end of the card which will bump into my HDD backplane. However, the H200 is using LSI 2008 chip which isn't suited for SSD.

Is there something like the H200 but using LSI 2308?

I don't know what chips they are using but i found the following after a google and eBay search.
Some are HBAs and some are RAID cards that may need to be flashed if they can be. Happy Hunting

LSI SAS 9208-8i
LSI SAS 9220-8i
M1015
LSI SAS 9240-8i
LSI SAS 9260-8i
