Hi all,

My house got flooded and the NAS got written off by the insurance company - about 85,000 L of water flowed from a dishwasher hose while I was away on holidays (The data is still safe Yay).

Im thinking of going with a Dell T330 tower server with 8 x 4TB WD Red drives in RAID-Z2 config or should I go with RAID-Z3?

Im after a sanity check before I lay out the cash for the replacement server

Regards

I wouldn't bother with Z3. Z2 is fine.

Some of the T330 lines come with RAID controllers instead of an HBA. You want an HBA if there aren't enough ports on the motherboard. I'm not especially familiar with the Dell product line.

I'm glad to hear your data was safe. That could have been ugly.

Cheers,
Matt

Did you mean you restored from backup or the original pool survived? The latter would be incredibly good luck
