I have 10x 6TB HGST and these things are just STUPIDLY loud. I was planning on replacing each and every drive with a WD Red 6TB. Will this even work, if I just resilver one drive at a time? I am using zraid2.

As long as the capacity of the new drive equals or is greater (not just that they both say 6TB on the sticker), then it will work just fine.

You can actually resilver more than one at a time, if you have spare drive ports. Look for the directions for replacing drives to grow a pool, even though your goal is not to grow the pool.

I'd get one of your desired drives and check it out. I have 12 HGST NAS drives running and they aren't any louder than any other SATA drive in my experience. The fans to cool the drives should be louder than the drives themselves.

Would this be a bad idea to resilver 2 drives at once WITHOUT spare ports? Like remove 2 disks from my zraid2 in order to resilver 2 at once.

I can hear my HGST drives clicking from 100ft away, it is absolutely insane. It's less about the ambient noise and more about the vibration from seeking, these things are WAY TOO LOUD!!

Apparently the WD Red 8TB uses the same sort of hardware as the HGST 6TB (i.e. LOUD), so I went with WD Red 6TB and luckily it seems to be working, just very slowly. 24h+ per resilver...

Feel free to ship those insanely loud drives to me... I've got a great home for them :D

That would be a very bad idea if you care about your data. The resilver process puts a heavy burden on the remaining disks so the chances of losing a disk go up. I'd do one at a time if it were me.
