I am attempting to build a FreeNAS box for home use.
I am well familiar with the concept of RTFM, but my problem is which FM? I have not found anything to explain why version 9.1 is the current version and that version 9.3 updates to 9.1.
Many of the how to guides use version 9.2 or 9.3. But in a practice install of 9.3, I got the yellow alert light saying 9.3 was in maintenance and that I should update to 9.1.
So, which do I use, 9.1 or 9.3? All I want to do is run owncloud to backup all the android phones in the house; sore files from the windows PCs in the house; and a media server (plex)? Trying to follow DrKK's Owncloud tutorial is a bit confusing because the versions he is using are different from 9.1.
FreeNAS is to be installed on an Intel 600p 256GB M.2 SSD. Processor is an i5 4430 (3 GHz). Motherboard is a GigabyteZ97MX-Gaming 5 with 24 gigs of RAM (yes, I know it is not ECC). Drives are four 2TB WD Greens (w/WDIDLE3 fix). I want to create a Z2 volume with all four drives. Should I make just one volume using all the space on the four drives?
Thanks in advance.
