How can I tell what HBA is in my FreeNAS box?

Assuming it's an LSI SAS HBA, sas2flash -listall, sas3flash -listall, sas2ircu and sas3ircu are your friends.

If you need the sas1 versions, you'll have to acquire them from LSI, since they're not included.

All it returns is "SAS2008" Vendor ID is 1000h Device ID is 72h. Guess I'll have to open her up. :(

Which "it" are you referring to? You'd been given five different commands to try by the time you posted.

But with that said, IIRC, the SAS2008 chipset is an old SAS1 model. No way of saying which exact card it would be. Why are you wanting to know?

Incorrect. The 9211 cards show as SAS2008.

Interesting, thanks for the correction. I knew 2308 was a SAS2 chip, and 3008 a SAS3, but obviously misremembered the 2008.

The 2308 is a somewhat improved version of the 2008, with a faster CPU, PCI-e 3.0 x8 (instead of 2.0 x4) and, I think, a die shrink.
