Hello all,
I have a server with the following specs
Supermicro X8DT3
Xeon E5606
64 GB ECC
1 intel dual port 82576 1Gbe (manage lan)
1 qlogic dual port 10 Gbe (storage iscsi o NFS)
Adaptec RAID 6445 512Mb with 16 600gb 15k SAS Disk 2 raid 1 for OS and the 12 on raid 5 and 1 as global hot spare
I don't know the best way to implement freenas (i read a lot about adaptec being bad idea) but is the hardware i have.
I can destroy all arrays as all data is migrated to another storage. Wich do you think is the best approach on my escenario.
I appreciate all help and excuse my english, as is not my mother tongue.

Thanks

Don't think that card can be cross-flashed to IT/JBOD Mode (Please correct me if I am wrong). So, assuming that you would first want to eliminate that card and get a real HBA or a card the can be cross-flashed (LSI 9211, IBM M1015, Perc H200)... FreeNas and hardware raid do not mix well (if at all); so forgo the ideas of that.

Not sure FreeNas has the driver for this card, but since the model is not stated I am not 100% sure. I do have some 10GB QLogics, that I use in my ESXi and Hyper-V Servers, but for FreeNas I use Chelsio. Let us know the model and maybe it will be natively supported...

Have a look at the "Recommended Reading" in my sig and take a little time to understand the hardware requirements (if you are confused).

This hardware is almost certainly not ready-to-go for FreeNAS. As Mirfster says, I think you need different hard drive controllers, and/or NICs.

The Intel NIC should be fine, not sure about the QLogic though. Just gab an appropriate HBA from Ebay (and correct cables; if needed). But you may not even need a HBA, since the board already has SATA/SAS connectors (http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/QPI/5500/X8DT3.cfm).

Grab a USB (or SSD) to install on as a test run and see how it goes. Can't hurt. ;)

/Edit: Just noticed you mentioned 16 drives... Yep you need a HBA..

Well, the onboard sas controller I believe can be flashed to IT.
So you have 8 disks from there. Plus another 6 sata ports on the motherboard.
Total of 14.
I think you are on good shape.
