Hi guys,

i plan to build my first freeNAS box,
currently i have ASRock E3C226D2I
16gb ecc ddr3
g3220
6x6tb WD red's comming next week
i plan to setup RAID-Z2, one vdev
no dedup.
CIFS

i do have l2 switch and already have server that would be connected to freeNAS, which also has 2x1gb nics that can be aggregated, but all the switch ports are used, so there is a need to buy additional switch.

so my question is, with my suggested freenas setup would be it possible to go over 1Gbps read or write speed with LACP or CIFS speed would be lower than 1Gbps so i would only connect one nic to switch.

Thank's

Generally speaking, people are sorely disappointed when they think that LACP will somehow magically double their bandwidth. It doesn't quite work that way. If I were you, I would plan to have 1Gbps performance, no matter what you do. For more chapter and verse on this, you can read directly in the documentation:

http://doc.freenas.org/9.3/freenas_network.html#lacp-mpio-nfs-and-esxi

In short, most users will not, and cannot, experience any improvement with LACP, by the very nature of the hardware, and the way in which CIFS is typically used.

Thank's Mate!

i wanted to update my post, as i have completed my setup, and my average write speed 90MB/s to NAS with single nic over CIFS.

later i try LACP and update my post also

It won't be any better with LACP. That's just not how it works.
