Problem accessing share from different computers

Hi. I'm running 9.2.1.8 x64, and have been for about a year now. I primarily use it for backups from my main computer. I set up permissions on the share to include full access for guests so I could access it from my 3 other computers, because I was having problems logging in as a user on the second computer when I was already logged in on the main computer. FWIW all computers have this share mapped as a network drive.

My problem is that on two computers I have no issues writing to the share, but on 2 I can map the drive, see all the files, but I am unable to write to it, or add/change directories. I do not have any users set up, I have just done everything through root. Is there an easy way to fix it so all the computers can both map the CIFS share as a network drive as well as have full read/write access to it?

Logging in as root will give you permissions if root ownes the files. Post the owner of the dataset and its permissions also post your cifs settings.

My apologies if I am a little (or a lot) dense at this. I'm sure there is a better way to set things up. The only user that I have created on this is one for my MacBook time machine backups. below are screenshots of what you asked for I think. Thanks.

On the two computers that don't have write access what user are you using? What ever that user is needs to have write permissions granted for their account. You can also right click on the share from Windows and give that user write permissions.

My main computer logs into the share, as a mapped drive, as root. The other one that works just logs in as a guest, with no credentials. At first I attempted to log in a root, but it wouldn't allow that, I assume, because I was already logged in as root on the main computer. FWIW all of these computers are running all the time. That is when I opened up guest access on the FreeNAS, and that allowed me to use the second computer without issue. All this was over a year ago. Now, however, when I attempt to access it from the other two, which I have never tried before, I can see the volume, but can't do anything with it as far as writing to or modifying it.

Would it be beneficial if I created a user for each of the computers, assigned the (same) share to each user, and logged in through Win7 with the individual user names?

Multiple users can login just fine. That isn't a problem unless your client computer is messed up. What are the client computers?

If you are using guest access you need to give your guest cifs user account write access to the share and directories. The guest user can be found under cifs settings. To give permissions you need to modify those from Windows probably. Just right click on the share and go to the security settings.
