Lost ability for Windows to see NAS on network

OK please be patient as I'm a novice.

I was SSH'd into a jail and working on configuring the Transmission plugin. I got everything working when all of the sudden All my CIFS shares cannot be seen by Windows. I rebooted, nothing. I tried typing the IP into the Network (\\192.168.1.X) and it said the connection was refused. What could I possibly have changed to break this? I don't want to start troubleshooting much more for fear of making things worse. Any ideas?

Edit:I should also mention that I was in my router and forwarded a port for an IP camera, but i can't imagine that possibly did anything.

Sounds like an IP conflict with your freenas box.

Hmm, I'll look into that, but my NAS has a static address. Could one of the jails accidentally take the same IP as the NAS?

Things will do whatever you tell them to do. If there is a conflict of IP, then it is the admins fault for providing a bad IP to use. AKA "user error".

Is the connection being refused (denied/permissions?) or is your system not seeing FreeNAS at all? There's a big difference.

Actually, now I think of it, you might have set the static ip in your router's DHCP range. Router's dont like that very much.

Using windows network diagnostics it is currently saying the device cannot be found. When input the IP (\\192.168.X.X\movies) is says the resource will not accept the connection.

The device is within the static range on the router.

Edit: Was just clicking through everything, trying to find something that sticks out, and saw this error when clicking on the "wizard" tab:

Shared object "libintl.so.9" not found, required by "libgpg-error.so.0"

Is this significant?

That still makes me think you're getting denied due to permissions or something but you can see your server.

Does your comp display FreeNAS' existence on the network at least? What im asking is, without trying to connect to the server does Windows see Freenas when you click on Network tab? Also what version of Windows are you running, 7 0r 8?

That being said, whatever you were doing, delete (transmission) and reboot both server and PC. Often times, FreeNAS wont register, like in above pic, on my windows network and a reboot of my PC is often a fix. If that doesnt work there's a few more things we can try that have worked for me.

If you arent running a WINS server (or any kind of complex network environment) and have a simple home setup, make sure in FreeNAS under Services > CIFS > settings that Local Master and Hostname Lookups are unchecked. They are checked by default. Restart CIFS service.

OK, I'm resurrecting this thread because I just came back from being out of town. Well I'm on to something, I went to change the settings in the CIFS service and when I unchecked "Local master" it wouldn't allow me to start the CIFS service. I rechecked it, and it still wouldn't start.

Also, I get this (what i believe is an) error, which mirrors other errors while I'm using SSH. This is while accessing the wizard:

EDIT: Also, There are updates I will implement soon, maybe that will fix the issue.

EDIT 2: Did a verify Install and there's a host inconsistencies. Not sure where to go from here...

Sounds like your boot device is failing. Save your configuration now, then try restoring it to a clean install on a new device.

OK so I ended up saving the config, rewriting the OS file from scratch to the same USB media, and uploaded the config. Everything is working great! Thanks so much for the help, it means the world.

I didn't even realize this was doable with USB drives... I now have something to read about and see about setting up!
