I think the main reason is liability. While you and I can admit there's always risk when buying something from a stranger, the forum doesn't need drama from people that can't accept that risk. We've had 1 or 2 people that have sold stuff. I think one was a ready-made FreeNAS server that just needed hard drives. I'd say if you wanted to sell 1 or 2 items you could probably sell it in the "off topic" section and nobody would care. Just make sure there's a disclaimer at the bottom that says you don't work for iXsystems etc.
