What does “waiting” mean?

What does it mean for a replication task to be in the “waiting” state? How do I find out what it’s waiting for? The word “waiting” doesn’t even appear in the manual. It’s particularly confusing that this happens as a result of clicking “run now”, which sounds to me like the opposite of wait. Unhelpfully, “no logs are available for this task”. What am I expected to do with this? How do I know if it’s waiting for me to do something?

I’m specifically not asking for help with running any particular task, but rather would like to understand the intended behavior of TrueNAS, what documentation I may have missed, or what resources are available in general to inspect the state of waiting tasks.

The middleware source code at https://github.com/truenas/middleware/blob/master/src/middlewared/middlewared/plugins/zettarepl.py may shed light.

As I understand the code, replication requires snapshots, and the replication task will be in WAITING status until the snapshot task finishes and the snapshot completes sending to the target. For a very large dataset, which has never been snapshotted, the initial snapshot and send can take a long time.
