As in the title.

$199.99 ($10 more than Black Friday 2020)

$269.99

$279.99

$329.99

These drives are totally nondestructively shuckable with nothing more than a bunch of guitar picks and a Phillips head screwdriver. If you save the case and the parts, you can reassemble them with no one being the wiser and take advantage of the two year warranty.

I've also posted a guide to shucking these.

Amazon in Europe is doing 271.99€ for the 16TB WD Elements, which should be similar. 14TB is out of stock and higher capacities are at typical prices or out of stock.

After shucking, another great post from @jgreco will help complete the transformation of (likely) "white label" into NAS drives.
Use smartctl -l scterc,70,70 /dev/adaN to enable TLER if it is disabled (which would be the reasonable setting for external USB drives).

That's an interesting price spread on each capacity increment. The 16TB model is $69 more than the 14TB but the 18TB is only $10 more than the 16TB?

Having been doing this for years, it's kinda consistent that the top drive or two is at a premium price (good for end of the year accounting), and then I suspect the smaller ones are priced to clear inventory.

I think they were selling both the 12TB and 14TB for $189 in 2020. So it's always been a bit weird.

Yeah this. The 16TB seems like a terrible buy compared to the rest.

Depends on what the availability of devices is like. It isn't unheard-of for BestBuy to put several devices on sale, but only have a limited number of at least some of those on hand. I will therefore point out that a device that is available for purchase is a much better option than one that isn't.

Does anybody know if the current crop of these drives need the 3.3v sense pin hack?
