I thought this had been fixed under a ticket a few years back, see http://forums.freenas.org/threads/avahi-and-mdns-errors.3272/

Can someone confirm if there is a fix was it incorporated into 9.1.1?

It looks like that ticket was referring to something else, not the avahi noise. Please open a new ticket at and post the issue number here.
