volume manager does not show any disks

Hi all,

May I know why my FreeNAS no have available disk at volume manager. my laptop model is XPS 14 L401X. I just want do a test.

Presumably because there are no disks attached, as is typical of laptops...

I'm trying to think of a good reason to run FreeNAS on a laptop, and I'm failing. But if you installed FreeNAS on your internal hard drive, and you haven't plugged in another one, that's exactly what you'll see.

FreeNAS does not store data on the boot device. Most laptops only hold one drive, so there no room for a data disk. Some laptops can hold two MSATA or M.2 SSDs, and that would work. Or you could install FreeNAS to a USB stick, boot from that, and use the internal hard drive or SSD for storage. It's not a very good platform for running FreeNAS, but would let you at least try it.

Remember that FreeNAS requires at least 8GB of RAM, which is the maximum amount this laptop can hold.
