Hi All,
This is my first post here although I have been reading through the documents and articles in these forum pages.
I have very new to NAS after moving from a Drobo (DAS) v2 to the following config:
ASUS E350M1:
8GB DDR3 Memory
3*2 TB Drives in ZFS-RaidZ1
3*1.5TB Drives in ZFS-RaidZ1
=================
Running FREENAS 8.2
=================
This is an overkill for just a NAS considering most of the time the system will be doing nothing so I am looking to Virtualise FREENAS which has raised a couple of questions. The Host OS would either be Windows XP or Ubuntu and I would be open to suggestions on what would be better as I will need to run XBMC mainly.
1) Is the most preferred option to use raw disks or to create VM disks on those drives.
2) When virtualised if I went the Raw option could I just import the ZFS pools without any problems or pitfalls.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Regards,
