I've got Windows 7 running in a VirtualBox, running in its own jail. Everything's fine (and Windoze is remarkably stable).

I'd like to share a folder such that Windows can see it and FreeNAS can see it. The VirtualBox documentation says this is doable via "Guest Additions." In other words, it's apparently not a built-in feature of VirtualBox, but one that can easily be added. Am I on the right track so far?

If that's the case, I can't figure out where to locate or install these Guest Additions and get access to the shared folder functionality. There's evidently something I still don't grok. Any helpful hints or suggestions?

Never mind...

As usual, I stumble across the answer minutes after posting the question. For posterity, the Guest Additions can be found by:
  • In phpVirtualBox, select your virtual machine (not VirtualBox itself) in the left-hand pane
  • Click Settings (the orange gear/cog icon)
  • Select 'Install Guest Additions' (the last menu entry)
  • The latest Guest Additions .iso file will download to your local machine
  • Transfer the .iso to your FreeNAS system via whatever method is convenient. Note that VirtualBox (but not the guest OS) will need access to this file.
  • In phpVirtualBox, select your virtual machine again
  • Click the Storage section of right-hand pane; select the CD/DVD drive
  • Click the tiny CD icon to the far right of the pop-up window
  • Select 'Choose a virtual CD/DVD...'
  • Navigate to the .iso you just downloaded and copied.
  • Voila! Your guest OS should see/mount the .iso and begin the installation process.
