Hello,

FreeNAS appears to be serving and storing files file but I noticed various mDNS errors on the console such as:
  • AddDNSServer Lock Not Held
  • mDNS Responder: CheckNATMappings failed to allocate port 5350 UDP
  • Failed to register AuthRecord - already on the list
  • Error! tried to register authrecord PTR its already on the list.
What is occurring here? My installation is pretty bare bones so not sure what mDNS is or why the 4 errors above are occurring - it seems DNS and NAT related but my FreeNAS box isn't a DNS server...my ISP router is acting as a DNS server for my LAN.

Thx

Is there any reason the chatty protocol needs to WALL its messages all over the console? A whole lot of messages get written there that don't really seem to have any business there, and kind of get in the way of the console menu. Seems to me the console messages should be limited to critical warnings, and let the rest go to the logs.

i am getting the exact same issue on my new install of 9.10 I installed on a usb drive and set the networking up manually. once i have entered my gateway ipv4 and dns settings i get the following error message.

"freenas mdnsresponder: mdns_register_internal: ERror!! tried to register authrecord 00000000801406D60 freenas.local (Addr) that's already in the list"
"freenas mdnsresponder: mdns_register_internal: Error!! tried to register authrecord 00000000801407180 20.106.168.192. in-addr.arpa (PTR) thats already in the list"

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated i would love to get to the console and setup my users.

i realize you use the web gui to setup the users but if you cant get networking to function then there isnt a web gui
Doesn't your system pick up an IP automatically? Ordinarily you shouldn't need to manually configure anything at the console. Are the mDNS messages completely flooding your screen? If they're just periodically scrolling the console menu off the screen, you can just press Enter and the menu will come up again.

Edit: And if they really are spamming the console screen so much that you can't do anything there, Alt-F2 will give you a second virtual terminal. You can log in as root and run /etc/netcli to get the console menu.

the 1-14 menu does come up and the ip address i listed is configured there although attempting to visit that ip address doesnt give me the gui. In addition i cannot ping that ip address which leads me to believe that the mdns errors are stopping me. is there anyway to get the mac address of the nic via the shell so that i can assign an ip to that mac address automatically via my dhcp server?

thanks for the help, looks like the cable between the switch and the server nic were no good thats why when i put it on dhcp i was getting an ip of 0.0.0.0 i have since replaced it and gained an ip address. i am now able to get into the gui although i do continue to see the mdns errors. not a huge concern since i am able to get into the gui just need to figure out why it shows 0 disks now. thanks for your help
