I have an APC SUM3000RMXL2U UPS with a network interface (their model 9631 card), that I'm trying to configure FreeNAS (9.10.2-U2) to use over the network. Under pfSense, configuring this is simplicity itself--"ups1" below is the hostname of the UPS on my network:

...but I'm having trouble finding equivalent configuration options in FreeNAS. Thoughts?

Did you look in the ups settings? You can configure remote ups if it uses nut.

Yes, I looked in the UPS settings. The UPS doesn't use nut, but it does talk SNMP. I don't see a driver for "remote UPS". I do see one for a very similar model of APC network interface (the 9630 rather than the 9631, but I believe they work identically in this regard), but when I choose that one, I still have no way of entering a hostname or IP address for the UPS--just a Port drop-down with a bunch of /dev/ entries.

Side note--whoever decided that the UPS driver chooser should be a single drop-down with hundreds of entries, and no way to sort or search, should be beaten about the head and shoulders with a wet noodle.

Well, if the docs aren't obvious, Use the Source, Luke. Didn't actually dig that far, but took a look at the ups.conf file that the pfSense box was using, and saw that it used "ups1" as the port.

So, with further poking around, it appears that despite being a drop-down, you can enter arbitrary values in the Port field in FreeNAS's UPS configuration. Entered "ups1" there, chose the snmp-ups driver for the AP9630, and the service starts without an issue. upsc ups@localhost returns a bunch of data that matches the device.

Docs are more than a little confusing/incomplete in this regard.
