I'm currently using the Transmission plugin, to which I've added nginx so I can connect to the Transmission service over SSL. I'd like to keep Transmission up to date, but I don't want to break my setup.

In the spirit of adventure, I took a snapshot of the jail, and went ahead and did the upgrade. After the update was done, nothing worked. Transmission would not start, and spit out a bunch of errors. Instead of taking the time to go over them and try and fix them, I just rolled back the snapshot. Honestly, I didn't think the update would work, but I figured it would break the custom stuff, not the Transmission stuff.

Should this update have worked? Is there a better way to go about doing the update? Should I just use a custom jail and update Transmission manually?

the plugin update procedure is pretty fragile so things dont always work as they should. transmission should retain most of it's settings in /var/db/transmission, but some are managed by the plugin and may need to be reset in the transmission configuration menu, in the freenas webui.

My last transmission plugin update didn't go so well either so I copied the directory that @Joshua Parker Ruehlig pointed out above and installed it in a standard jail. It's pretty simple to get it working.
