I am looking to run Unify video on an VM on my existing FreeNAS box.

My plan is to add WD purple drive as a separate pool. I am not worried about fault tolerance because I am not going to store anything other than surveillance data on this new pool. I already have a wd red RAID4 to store everything else.

The software will be installed on bhyve VM and a zvol created on the surveillance pool will be mounted to store the surveillance data and recordings.

Do you see any issues in this setup? Does any of you see any issues in storing surveillance data on zfs zvol on WD purple?

...and if you have "a" disk that you'll use for everything else, apparently you aren't concerned about fault tolerance there either.

Why a zvol? Seems a file share would be simpler.

Thank you for the reply.

By 'a wd red RAID4' i mean an array of 4 wd red drives, so it is fault tolerant.

I thought zvol may be easier to mount to the bhyve vm. Dont mind using fils share.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I completely mis-read that--I read it as a WD Red 4 TB. Completely different thing, sorry.
