Hi.

I have just run into a problem with a system I setup about 2 years ago with Freenas 9.2.1.8 and 6x3tb setup as a mirrored system.

There have never been any issues with this system, it runs only when needed and has been very stable. The disks were new when they were added.

In the last day or so one of the disks now shows it is "UNAVAIL". However, if I go into the "Import Volume" under the GUI I see that disk as available with the correct size ..etc.. for importing. I did not import that volume because I could not add it as a mirror volume ...etc...

Help? Any suggestions?

I ran the command "zpool status" and placed the results in the uploaded .txt file. Thanks.

One of your disks is not seen by FreeNAS. Could be a dead drive. Could be a dead port. It could be that the power connector to the drive fell off.

If you haven't already rebooted, I'd start with that. The next step would be to replace the drive listed as being 'UNAVAIL'.

If you don't already have a backup of your data, do it NOW before you crack open the case. No telling what horrors await inside.

Cheers,
Matt

Matt,

Thanks for the suggestions. I have gone thru all of what you suggested already and the SATA port is not dead, the SATA cable has been replaced (twice), the power connector has been tested and swapped with another, and all is heathy in the BIOS Setup which shows the drive as up and running.

As far as a backup, that has been running for about 24 hours now. The backup is to a second Freenas server in the LAN. I am a photographer and there are a lot of files.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Sounds like you need to replace the drive.

I agree with @MatthewSteinhoff you will need to replace the drive. Seems as though you have already ruled out what causes 99% of drive drops like that.

One additional thing I would add is once you complete your backup, I would pull the drive and put it in an external enclosure or dock and see if you can get it to mount on a PC. Someone suggested that to me when I had a drive all of a sudden drop offline and doing this gave me further confirmation that it was dead beyond all the things that I tested (as you did).
