$20 in PayPal to the first person who can successfully solve this problem.

I have 2 installs of FreeNAS. My primary box is running 9.2.1.3-BETA and my test box, which was just setup last night, is running 9.2.1.2. My AD server is running Server 2012R2 and my Windows clients have no problem joining the domain.

In FreeNAS I have my hostname set to nas.aluminas.org (aluminas.org is the domain name), and the DNS is pointing to my domain controller. I am able to ping back and forth with no problems and all domains resolve properly. The time is also synced up properly as they are both using the same NTP server.

Here is a link to all of the settings for CIFS (Which is working correctly) and Directory Services. Also, yes I do have Active Directory set in the settings.

And here is a link to the important bit, the log.

I am not joking, the first person who is able to fix this bug or tell me what I have set wrong (Which doesn't seem like the case, since I see forum posts all over for this issue) gets $20.

Thank you!

The issue is that when I enable Directory Services, I just get a message saying the service could not be started.

What happens if you manually try to net ads join -U ? What are the contents of smb4.conf?

The output of net ads join -U is a missing argument error. I tried net ads join -UAdministrator%Password and received this error:
Host is not configured as a member server.
Invalid configuration. Exiting....
Here are the contents of smb4.conf:

Thank You!

That line might be the issue. See the discussion in https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/4580.

No luck, I changed the SMB min and max version to SMB 2_02 and the same issue exists.

CIFS is able to start and operate properly, with the exception that when I browse to it via \\hostname I am prompted for a password, but \\IP I am not prompted for anything.

I am willing to let you use any remote desktop software and play around with my setup if you are interested. Nothing special is setup on the Windows server, so I cannot see how that would be the problem.

Sounds like you have some kind of domain setting that isn't compatible withthe way NAS4Free, Openfiler, and FreeNAS work.

One guy had a thread on an issue like this, and it took him like 16 months to realize it was a domain setting that had been enabled. I think it had something to do with certificates, but don't quote me.

Not sure if you have done this yet or not, but I wasn't able to join any of my FreeNAS boxes to the domain without first configuring a Datastore. I was experiencing many of the same issues as you are and they all vanished as soon as I created a datastore.
