Trying to update from 8.2.0 Beta 4 to 9.0 release

Sorry for the newbie question but I didn't see an answer for this in the forum.

I'm trying to update from 8.2.0 Beta 4 to 9.0 but I get an error message about not being able to find my avatar.conf file and the update fails.

Do I have to update to production 8.2 before I can get to 9.0 or what am I doing wrong??

There is no 9.0 Release, do you mean 9.2?

Theoretically the upgrade should work, but you can always take the intermediate step of upgrading to 8.3.x or 8.2. Are you using GUI upgrade or ISO?

Sorry, Yes I did mean that I was trying to get to 9.2.
I am trying the CD install method since the GUI method does not work for me either.
When trying the GUI installation I can see that the status shows it getting to about 50% loaded before it stops with a message a the top saying "an error has occured"
I looked but could find nothing in /data that would tell me what the problem is.

Do you think my best bet is to try an intermediate release then?

Should I do a new install and then load my config file back in? Would that work?

Yes, that should work as well. Try whatever is easier for you. If you have a second USB stick, you don't even have to touch the original one if you do a fresh installation.

I went for broke and did a clean install of 9.2.
After it was up I copied my config file over and everything is working well now.

Thanks for the advice. I'm installing PLEX on it now!
