The MOBO does have a video chipset so I might try to use a vga cable for that. I ordered a VGA to HDMI converter box since I have no monitors with vga.... The CPU doesn't have integrated graphics (my mistake... newegg won't return it because I opened the box). I did get a cheapo graphics card with HDMI out that I was trying today but that was a no go as well.

Hmmm in the end.. the video card wouldn't work on my desktop.. so I guess the lack of video output is still the culprit.

Can you utilize the IPMI on your motherboard?

You should read through your motherboard manual and learn it. IPMI allows you to access your server from a web browser on another computer. No need for any video outputs or connecting keyboard to server.

ftp://66.226.78.21/manual/IPMI/E3C224D2I.pdf

The problem is figuring out the IP address. I used "arp - a" and tried a few ip addresses in the web browser but no go. I made sure to plug the ethernet port into the Dedicated IPMI LAN Port.

The manual doesn't say much until after you log in.

*edit*

So I found this better manual: http://www.asrockrack.com/support/IPMI.pdf

The problem is they suggest doing BIOS tweaks and I can't even get into the BIOS.

Do you have the ability to see connected devices on your DHCP server?

Does that command not show all the connected devices? Also I did some reading... I need 2 ethernet cords right? One from the IPMI Lan to my desktop... and one from the NAS LAN port to the switch?

The IPMI LAN should also be connected to the switch.

Do you know the MAC address of the IPMI adapter?

I'm trying to boot off my sandisk cruzar but no luck. Not sure what's up. It doesn't think it's a boot media.

I've tried both Freenas / Memtest with no luck... on 2 different USB sticks. My BIOS is updated too.

Could be an issue in BIOS boot settings or a problem with how you burned the FreeNAS image to your USB drive. Did you follow the installation instructions from the manual? You can mount the ISO as a virtual cd drive through IPMI, boot from the virtual disk, and reinstall on the USB.

Yeah I pretty much followed it exactly. Using Win32diskimage.... I'll try mounting it

CD/DVD Media and then press Connect. Then reboot and choose virtual cd drive as boot device.

Hmm. Since updating the BIOS to the latest version, I can't enter the bios anymore. And nothing happens when I mount the image and reboot. This is a mess....

Did you reset the CMOS after the bios update?
