As the Community has told us (repeatedly). Jails are very solid, but Plugins have not been as reliable. There are both technical and operational reasons for this.
Containerized Apps will be more reliable and more efficient to support in the longer term.
iX will allow more Community control of the Apps and Plugins via GitHub. We are looking for volunteers who would like to have administrative control of Pull requests. The addition of Community Apps does not remove any access for 3rd party Catalogs.
iX will directly support the most important/widely used Plugins and Apps. This will also include the Jails/iocage infrastructure as well as the Kubernetes infrastructure. However, over time, we are recommending the Community migrate the Plugins they use to to either Jails, Apps or VMs.
