System information: Memory

Hello,

I just installed more memory in my FreeNAS 9.2.1.8 from 16gb to 24gb. The bios read the 24gb. But when it comes to the system information within FreeNAS it is only showing 12gb. Wondering what could be causing the information to be incorrect. Is there any other way to check how much memory is installed in FreeNAS?

Can you post the debug on your system along with all system hardware?

Fx-4130 CPU
ECS a990fxm-a motherboard
g.skill ripjaw x - 2x8gb and 2x4gb ( I know they are not ECC but i am okay with it. Not really data sensitive stuff.)

Not sure what debug you are looking for?

I tried back by leaving the 16gb and it read that though. Its only when i add in the other 8gb is when it only reads 12gb.

Debug is a button under system settings. Gives you a whole boatload of data on your computer all at once.

But, you are definitely not using anything remotely recommended, so don't be surprised if the answer is "buy higher quality stuff" after I see your debug info. ;)

Man buy higher quality stuff... Not the best to hear. FreeNAS was supposed to be a way to do things for the budget saver. And yes, I am just using spare parts but its been fine so far when I only have 16gb just wanted to add in the extra memory thats just sitting around. And a budget NAS server is the goal. Right now I am back to 16gb and streaming my movies. So I will try again tomorrow to add in the extra 8gb and save the debug. I shall be back. Thank you.

OH and I ran a debug on what i have now. There is a bunch of files. How should I post this debug for you?

FreeNAS was supposed to be a way to do things for the budget saver.

FreeNAS 7 (and rebranded to NAS4Free) was supposed to be a way to do things for the budget saver.

FreeNAS 8+ has never been for the budget saver. It's enterprise class software that has hardware needs far above 'random parts from the bottom of my closet'. Does it suck? Yes. I'd love to have reused parts from my basement. But FreeNAS has done a heck of a job taking care of my data, so I'm not about to fret the cost. Most people that use FreeNAS aren't here because it's cheap (although it can certainly be inexpensive for what you get in the big picture) but they wanted high data security. FreeNAS, without a doubt, does that.

The debug should be a single archive. Just attach the archive to the forums.

I think we're past the stage of trying to determine "if" all the memory is there. The question is more of 'why isn't it all there' and the debug will hopefully shed some insight.

ok so i made it home and ran the debug. I will upload the debug. Hopefully this can help.

HEY>> sorry. I feel bad. I am just not going to use this setup. I am going to move away from this particular build. I am going to build a different one using an intel chip instead. I am just going to leave this alone with the 16gb since that is working fine.

I love FreeNAS, and I know they are moving in the enterprise section. But I really like the functionality of it. I am on a budget and I glad that it works without having the better quality parts.
