And what service are you trying to start? Where is the unionfs, on another server or installed into a jail?

situation:
I have preinstalled Freenas 9.2.1.3 on flash. There is no much free place, but i want to install some ports ( like Openfire ) cause i have no more servers in this network for this services. I red some manual where man used unionfs for mounting other disk for installing ports and i tried it (manual on rus is here http://freenaswiki.ru/doku.php/ustanovka_dopolnenij_na_embedded-versiju). but after
Code:
 mount_unionfs /mnt/data/opt/usr_local /usr/local
mount_unionfs /mnt/data/opt/var /var
service syslogd falled. I hear opinions that i can use jail for install ports, but i cant understand - how?

Yeah. you create a ports jail and then install whatever you want in the jail. The jails are literally a mini-freebsd install. You can install things in it using pkg-ng or ports, etc.
