Hello,

I have just upgraded to FreeNAS 8 and I've mounted two volumes. There are symlinks on both of the volumes that point to the other.

I would like to know how I can configure FreeNAS such that when I share one (or both) of the volumes via CIFS that Windows will be able to follow the symlinks.

My understanding is that I can enable "follow symlinks = yes" in smb.conf, however I can't change the smb.conf file as these setting come from the FreeNAS db and overwrite and changes I make.

Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

Matt -

If you go to Services -> CIFS and click on the wrench Icon, there's a field there called 'Auxillary Parameters' which should allow you to set the symlinks=yes in the smb.conf file and have it get saved in the database/persist after a reboot.

Hope that helps!

For anyone else out there running into the same issues as I was, you will need to add the following three parameters into the auxuliary parameters sections of the CIFS configuration:

unix extensions = no
follow symlinks = yes
wide links = yes

Just created a an SMB share which has a symlink in the root of it which links to a folder in another location

even with
unix extensions = no
follow symlinks = yes
wide links = yes

i still can't see it on the windows client, any ideas?
