Hi all,

I saw this video and thought it may be of interest - apologies if I've posted in the wrong location.

Yeah, saw this on Servethehome and Lawrence Systems. This is MUST READ for those users like me who have been using WD Reds for years. I've been lucky in that I've only used 3TB and 8TB drives. WD's response (it's referenced in the lawrencesystems video) has been less than forthright. For those who might not know the background, apparently WD has been using SMR drives in some of their NAS (Red ) drives without telling anyone. The implications for NAS's are profound. Took like 15X longer to resilver these SMR drives than same (at least they are labeled the same) CMR drive. Shame on WD! Will never buy another WD drive.

Like you, I'm so glad this came out, I've only started testing FreeNAS and something like this would have ruined the intro for me - and many others of course. Taking that long to resilver must have already cost a few people some precious data, personal or business.
