Been gifted some pretty impressive exos x16 disks. Will be migrating current raid z2 8x4tb wd reds onto the new pool.

I have backup that’s a raid 6 already with external backup that also goes offsite.

Any issues with this idea?

If I'm reading you right, you're saying you'll replace a RAIDZ2 of 8 disks with a mirror of 2 disks.

That's OK, but be aware that although you shouldn't lose too much in terms of IOPS, you may lose throughput... RAIDZ2 will probably be able to read from something like 6 disks simultaneously in an 8-wide array, so going to only 2 disks will reduce the throughput.

Write throughput speeds may similarly reduce a bit, but IOPS may even go up a little, so that might be a win.

It’s just a family storage server for memories and a plex server. That’s about it really. Not very IOPS intensive what so ever. Main priority is low power.
