Hi All,

I was just wondering, if I start using LZ4 compression on my system (I assume that would mean having to move my data from/to my pool to compress my existing data), would the compressed data reduce the probability of data repair/recovery by ZFS? Or is it just all the same from the ZFS perspective?

Thanks!

Rene.

It's the same. FYI, the ZFS metadata are compressed by default even if the user data compression is not enabled (unless you disable it via sysctl vfs.zfs.mdcomp_disable=1).

Good to know, thanks :)

Do you have any experience with LZ4's compression ratios? I know it depends on the data (DVD images, movies, PDF, textfiles), but I didn't find any real-world examples yet.
