I've been using FreeNAS 9.10.2-U1 for more than a year. Since then have no problems until I updated to 9.10.2-U4 on Friday.
The network is not a domain but workgroup using FreeBSD 10.3 Stable.
Problems:
Home directories for users are not accessible - access denied.
It is not possible to save updated documents "read only", not possible to edit data base.
Interestingly users can read some common shares.

I appreciate for any help.
Thank you

Post a debug file. System->Advanced->Save Debug

Here is the log.smbd file. I couldn't find dump.txt in the log/samba4 folder.

Extract the debug tarball that you downloaded. The SMB config dump will be under "\ixdiagnose\fndebug\SMB"

Try adding the following auxiliary parameter under services->SMB ntlm auth = yes

Thank you. interestingly there is no smb folder under \ixdiagnose\fndebug\.
For your information I do not use samba as active directory or as domain controller. I use it only for File sharing.
I added ntlm auth = yes.
Accessing home directories of users is not possible. I have PCs only with windows home versions (win 8 and win 10). Ther error message is access denied. But earlier it was possible.
Other shares are now accessible and writable.

Apparently, the log is under "CIFS".

The basic problem I have now is, the home directories are not accessible. I receive the message "permission denied".
Thank you.

post output of:
getfacl /mnt/data/Home
getfacl /mnt/data/Home/<user> for instance getfacl /mnt/data/Home/niv

Note that setting "ntlm auth = yes" was a diagnostic step. You should fix your client configuration so that it does not require NTLMv1 auth.

How can I do that? Where can I get the instructions for that?

That depends on client and network configuration. Assuming you're not using mschapv2 or 802.1x, and you have modern Windows clients, you will need to verify your LmCompatibilityLevel registry setting (it should be 3 or higher). On Linux you'll potentially need to modify fstab entries to specify the ntlmssp.
