Hi,
1:
I am new to FreeNAS. I completed my installation, for a small business, and it is working for now. I was wondering if it was possible to configure a new alert type for every time someone is deleting a file from the NAS, I build it on a Raid1 mirror volume type, to send me an email. The email function is working, I did the email test and I received it.

2:
I am trying to set up an antivirus type program to analyze the Raid that is in use. I did some research and I found that old version of FreeNas had clamAV in is plugin database but the latest version of FreeNAS, that I use: FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201502271818, there is no clamAV in it. I also found that installing an AV on the disk where the OS is isn't recommended at all.

Can someone help me with this? or at least redirect me to the right place!
Thank You!

It is not the job of a NAS to do ***ANYTHING*** other than to store the files, whatever they are. So, the whole "anti-virus" thing is weird to me. The anti-virus (useless in my opinion anyway, but whatever) should be run on the CLIENTS, not on the server.

As for the emails: It doesn't make any sense to want to know when any file is deleted like this. On my system, you'd get 10000 emails per day, and only me and my family use it. Perhaps you can achieve what you want via "snapshots", so that you can see what's been deleted, if you ever needed to, and/or restore it.

Thank you for your answer!
The need of an AV is because I am importing an old raid to FreeNAS and the raid have some infected files that I need to remove.

Well, those viruses and such probably don't work on FreeBSD at all, so you should mount the pool, create the CIFS share, then scan the network share.

ClamAV works "okay" but does NOT beat true Windows antivirus software afaik. So even if you had ClamAV installed and working, you'd still be highly recommended to scan it with your Windows AV software.

Nothing is stopping you from creating a jail and installing ClamAV to scan your drive. I wouldn't necessary recommend it or even rely on it because of possible problems with file permissions, ClamAV's lack of complete antivirus protection, etc.

I just don't think ClamAV is the solution to the problem you are trying to solve.
