Hi all,

I have just installed FreeNAS 8.0.4 on a machine that is not connected to anything, and I would like to keep it that way. (I intend to connect an ethernet cable and transfer files to and fro when I need to.)

I would like to configure FreeNAS to send email to the local root account and read it at the terminal once in a while. (If I get fancy, later I'll write a script so the machine beeps every hour when there are certain keywords in unread emails.)

Is it possible for emails sent to root to be saved locally on the box? How can I configure this, and what command should I use to read the local email?

Also, is this a stupid thing to do/want this? It occurs to me that perhaps I should be checking various logs if I'm at the box directly, but as I understand, root receives a lot of relevant messages and also things like SMART tests ask for an email field. So it seems elegant to get email "working", even if only locally.

Thanks in advance for your advice.
