Just started getting to use the freenas. So far I find it awesome. It is on a hp dl380 g6. I currently have it on my internal network. I have a DMZ network also behind a pfSense box. What I would like to do is have share on the freenas box that I can allow the DMZ to access without giving breaching any security. So is it safe to bind a share/volume to a second nic that the dmz can share to without crossing over into the lan?

I thought the point of having a DMZ is to separate vulnerable services (like email) from your LAN. Exposing your file server on the LAN to the DMZ kind of defeats the purpose of having a DMZ, right?

Pretty much. FreeNAS is not hardened and should not be internet-facing.
