Does anyone know of something to add to a Supermicro SC847 to monitor the enclosure (power/temp/etc)? Since there isn't a motherboard, there isn't IPMI.

Thx!

I think there exists a new chassis expander card that has IPMI , someone posted it on this forum. I think its somewhere in the 72 drive , 3 chassis build log

The little grey post number is actually a link.

It looks like a neat little thing. Full-blown AST2400 is a bit overkill, but you get a very consistent experience.

Thanks! Very cool. @pclausen how are you liking that CB3 board? I just picked up an enclosure and looking to add some monitoring to it.

It is working great. Only draws about 37W at idle with the fans running low.

I would love to be able to control the fan speeds based on drive temps as opposed to just leaving them at Heavy I/O via the IPMI all the time. But then I haven't figured out how to control the fan speed in my main X10 chassis either to be driven by disk temp as opposed to just going with one of the 4 IPMI fan speed settings.

There's an I2C connector and purchased a Supermicro 4-pin I2C cable to go between the CB3 and SAS2 backplane, but the connectors at the end of the cable were slightly too small. I'd love to be able to pick up temp from the backplane as that would be a lot closer to actual disk temp. I'll fiddle with that some more once I get further along with my overall setup.
