Hi, been running truenas for many years on my hp microserver gen8 with xeon cpu and 16gb ram.

I have 4 x 4tb wd red drives in it and have 90% drives full.

IS there a way to attatch a large amount of sas drives to this server ?
Ive been looking online and something cheap like this appeals to me.

What card do i need to get something like this to work on my server and can it even be used without configuring the raid array on the drive box and just use zfs as i am now?

Basically i just want to add a load more drives to my system but cant see the best way to do it.

Thanks in advance.

To extend your storage you need a JBOD and a HBA. (like LSI 9300-8e)
These EMC appliance are storage appliance with a RJ45 interface, they are not JBOD shelves, they cannot work with TrueNAS.

The HPE Microsever Gen8 has a free PCIe expanstion slot, so technically you can connect a HBA and its JBOD, but it would be easier to
  • buy larger hard disks for your HPE microserver gen9
  • or pick a computer with more disk slots.
