Hello All:

I have a system with 1 x 8GB Flash and 3 x 1TB HDD. Needless to say the OS is installed on the flash.

Hypothetically, what would happen if the flash fails and we need to replace it and reinstall FN. Would the screen shots taken earlier be visible / available and would they help in getting the system up and running again with all data and the folder hierarchy and other settings being restored to the point of the screen shot?

Thanks
Neeraj

All settings are saved within the config file. There are many scripts on here that people have written that will automatically back this up so that you always have a copy of it (with versioning) incase something goes wrong.

You can manually save a copy of your config file to any client computer through the GUI. If your flash died, you would simply reinstall FreeNAS on a new flash, upload your saved config, and you're back in business.

To prevent down time and the need to reinstall you can add a 2nd USB as a mirror to your boot USB. That plus saving your config will get better peace of mind ;) Check the forum and documentation on how to do it, not hard at all.
