Hello,

I am new to TrueNAS.

I use TrueNAS Scale, I have two hard drives in RAID 1.

I want to reinstall TrueNAS and

I would like to know if it is possible to reinstall TrueNAS without losing the
data that are stored on the hard drives.

Thank you in advance for your help :)

Have done it many times without problems - but if you're nervous about nuking the pool by accident you can disconnect the drives during reinstall and then import them when reinstall is done.

I assume RAIDZ1 not standard RAID. You should not use standard RAID with ZFS. Mentioning just in case.

Just make sure you don't select any of the drives with data as target for the installation and after installation remember to go to "Import" in pool menu to import existing pool and not try to create a new one.

I reinstalled Scale multiple times (while experimenting with my new hardware - not because OS needed it) and never had issue importing an existing pool so you should be good.

With two disks? Not likely, it's far more likely to be a mirrored pair.
Possibly, the point is as long as it's handled by ZFS it's fine.

Hello,

I will disconnect the drives and reinstall TrueNAS and import them.

I also would like to export a Windows virtual machine so I can import it when the reinstall is done :
is it possible? there is nothing about that in TrueNAS interface

you dont have to do that, if the vm's zvol is in your pool it will be exported when the pool is exported. Just shut it down, export the pool, re-install and load the saved config, everything should come back as normal after a reboot

Ok. Thank you for your help.

I have one 256 Go SSD and two 4 To hard drives (it is a mirrored pair).

I will install the system on the ssd
Is it possible to install the applications on the ssd too?
