Hello everyone! I am looking to get away from my NAS setup i have had for other 6 years. I am looking around and found a Dell PowerEdge T420 for about $250 with 14tb of storage, Outside of that that is all i know about them. For my use case do you think it will be worth doing?

Looking for Jellyfin media server,
Light Virtualization,
File and media storage,
Docker container to play around with them.
Mastodon server for self hosting.

Would this work and if so what else can i add to it to make it better?

Also be advised, in my experience Poweredge servers sound like airplanes(especially when booting or high load), and weigh about half as much.

Thanks for the info. The question is how is the power consumption? Looking for something comparable to my terra master nas if possible.

Probably around ~250w. Just a guess.

I do have 1 Dell Power Edge T420 myself. I did have to flash the card in there. My device used to be a little more quiet on idle but I ended up changing the CPU to something with more juice(only using 1of2 CPUs) and it is a little more noise. I will be trying out Truenas soon. It was idling about 80W with no OS installed but with 8 3TB HDDS.
