I've setup a FreeNAS-8.3.0-RELEASE-p1-x64 (r12825) server recently and it had been randomly freezing when it's not under any load.
I'm not sure if you would consider it completely frozen because twice I had an instance of top running at the time and it was still refreshing, but once I exited top I never got a shell prompt. I also couldn't connect to the Web interface, SSH, NFS, or CIFS. Ping still responded.
It's running on a PowerEdge 1950 with dual Xeon E5430 2.66Ghz and 16GB RAM.
For the network we are using a quad-port Intel(R) PRO/1000 PCI-Express card instead of the on-board Broadcom network adapter.
For storage I have the following layout,
Internal Disks SAS6IR
-> 2 x 300GB 15K SAS = ZFS mirror compression=on
External Disks Perc 6/E + MD1000
-> 5 x 2TB 7.2K SATA = ZFS raidz1 compression=on dedup=on
-> 10 x 400GB 7.2K SATA = ZFS raidz2 compression=on
Here is a screenshot of top during one of the freezes,
Any ideas on what steps I can take to find the cause of these freezes?
