I know having a large L2Arc eats up ram. Does anyone know if there is a rule of thumb on sizing this? Kind of like the 1GB of ram per 1TB of deduplication?
Seems like a good idea to add L2ARC flash drives as I can afford them in front of my 7200 RPM spinning disks, but I don't want to blow out the ARC holding all metadata for the L2ARC.

Minimum to start considering L2ARC is around 64 GB ram.

5-10 GB of L2ARC per 1 GB ARC.

Ok, so CyberJocks guide says:

"An L2ARC shouldn’t be bigger than about 5x your ARC size."
With 128Gig of ram the biggest L2ARC with would be 640 gigs.

So I should be good to go with a 500 gig SSD as an L2ARC.
