Hello All,

Anywhere I look or calculate the storage it should be around 13.5TB but FreeNAS is reporting it as 12.5TB. I've forced 4096 sectors and wiped the drives again before recreating the pool. Am I crazy? I'm using Seagate ST3000DM001's. Is there something else I can try?

Thanks,

-Manb

That does seem a little low. Your 13.5TB number may be a little optimistic, however. What's the output of "zpool list" look like?

When I make the pool it's telling me all the devices are 3TB so I'm not sure why it's coming up with 19TB there.

Thanks.

Or, rather, the actual physical disk space. 2.71TB per disk (19TB/7). I believe that model has 5860533167 sectors, which works out to 2.7TB. So that's right on the mark.

So 2.71*5 - ZFS raid z2 overhead = 12.5TB?

So in essence 1TB more or less of overhead/parity?

I guess nevermind.... when using 2.71 as the storage capacity instead of 3TB here: http://www.servethehome.com/raid-calculator/

It looks more like the numbers that I'm getting from freenas... I guess I'll have to live with it... sad 21TB drops down to 12.5TB but hopefully I'll never lose anything off the disks =D

Manb - its like we are all looking at the same half empty glass man! so what was the conclusion on this??

my situation:
The hard drives are the regular run of the mill in these capacities - green drives and one WD Blue Drive:

4 X 1TB * = *4
3X 2TB*= *6
2X 3TB *= *6
1X * 750GB = *750 GB *

TOTAL TO = 16TB physical*
-3tb overhead (in theory)

i should end up at least with at least 12 TB OR 10TB ---

BUT WHATS SHOWING under

RAIDZ IS 5.6TB*and

under RAIDZ2 5.3TB
(i still don't have REAL DATA stored on this volume yet)

The Calculator link is suggesting: (which is all jibrish FOR ME at this point)
guys i have a bigger gap in my array and i am a newbeee and am sure i am missing something here! please help ...

Saeed A Siddiki has 7 posts today, and 6 from yesterday, all asking the same question. Please, forum moderators, do something. This is just out of control. I thought I made it clear yesterday when I posted to all of his threads to stop, but he's back today.

He needs to be banned, prevented from posting, or something, until he understands that posting to multiple threads won't give you more answers. Not to mention that his question doesn't have much to do with the threads he's posting in.
