Hi All,

I would like to build a Linux box and install FreeNas as well as a Docker with AtomicToolkit onto the box. This should allow me to have a fully automated HTPC and download station and an independent FREE NAS setup.

Questions:

It is better to implement FreeNas on the new PC with a Docker or directly into the Linux Box? Are there limitations for other devices on my network to connect to the freenas (mapped network drive) via the docker? For example: Scanner, Printer, Windows and Mac PCs?

Is it better to have the HTPC Media Server in its own docker versus as plugins directly inside the FreeNas software? What advantage does this give me?

I am totally new to FreeNas and looking to migrate away from having synology as a nas and my windows PC as the Plex server and download station. I hoped to combine all into a linux box.

Freenas is an operating system. You install it to a hdd/ssd and use dedicated hardware. You don't run freenas in a docker container or a vm.
