I'm a little confused about the permissions. I create a group "ftp_user" Then I created a user "ftp_user1" and assign the home directory to "/mnt/Partition1" and part of the "ftp_user" group. SSL/TLS is enabled. I would really like 2 things accomplished. 1) read only on certain folders and children. 2) read + write + create directories (no delete) on other dropbox folders before the files are validated and moved to read only share folders. I accomplished this easily with filezilla server before.
Currently I have one big zfs volume mounted as Partition1. When I look at the permissions for this volume I have:

I would like to know why I can take all permissions off of group and with Other set to read and execute able to connect, but when I set group to read and execute and remove all from other I get permission denied. This doesn't make sense to me at all. To me "other" is interpreted as any user from any group which I don't want except for obviously root.
