What is the proper way to remove a disk in freenas?

I have removed the disk from the volume. Anything else I need to do?

I'd start by reading the instructions in the manual.;)

You can't remove a disk from a volume its not a member of.

Can you explain in more detail what you are trying to say? I'm really not understanding what you are trying to do :(

Looks like I used wrong terms on such simple task. Normally removing a disk with members in a volume is straight forward because you can verify with the disk status under volume manager. (ONLINE,OFFLINE, DEGRADE)

I am trying to remove a single disk that is the only member of a volume. The volume has been deleted and the disk is not associated with any volumes. Anything else I need to do?

Okay.

If the volume is deleted already(presumably from the GUI) then there is nothing else you need to do.

If you didn't delete the volume from the GUI you may still see the volume in the GUI. In that case you simply need to "detach" it from the GUI. You'll get an error because the detaching will fail(since its not attached right now), but you can safely ignore the error.
