problem w/ install 90% extracted post-install

I'm trying to do a fresh install of TrueNAS Scale and keep running into the same problem. It gets to 90% installed and starts the post-install processes and then gets stuck running through things. among a lot of text I keep getting
watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU# stuck for ....

I'm not sure what else in there might be relevant.

I have been successfully running CORE on this system for a bit over a month.
I am running it on a MacPro 5,1 w/ intel Xeon X5690, 32 GB ram. I am installing to a 250GB NVMe. I'm not sure what other information would be helpful.
