switch to either :
64 bits hardsware and the 64-bits version of freenas or
( you may keep your zfs disks including their contents)
use ufs instead of zfs
( you have to copy all data )

A big ole ++ to either of these two options. 64bit processors are pretty common these days. Are you sure your hardware isn't 64bit capable?
Alternately you can read my post about running ZFS on a 32bit install with low memory. It has worked in some cases, not in others. I'd really recommend going 64bit if it is possible.
