I am in the process of buying some server grade hardware and was on Amazon looking at ECC ram and this popped up.

I was just wondering if it was something I should look at buying? I like the idea of something already packaged. Just need to upgrade the ram.

Opinions? Thanks!

If you're considering the TS140, you might also want to consider the TS440. Seems like a better deal to me.

Wow.... I was in such a hurry to post that I didn't even think to search. I'm an idiot... -_- But, thank you for that link. Looks like many have had success.

If I'm reading that right, same internals, a lot nicer case (hotswap bays), and cheaper? Awesome!

//edit// Just saw this:
  • Hard Drive: None. Supports up to 4 x 3.5" Hard Drives | Please Note that hard drive caddies are not included. They are only placeholders.

Both models ship with no hard drives. The caddies are cheap, and the TS440 can be upgraded with another set of 4 hot-swap bays. Either model looks like a decent choice to me for a basic home NAS.

I understood the no hard drives thing, but when I saw the caddies in the pic I assumed that was the only location to mount drives. So, I assume there are 4 locations internally, and a possibility of caddies if you chose to add them?

Not exactly. There are 4 hot-swap bays at the bottom and a blanking plate above. If you go here and hunt through the gallery you'll find a photo where that upper blanking plate is replaced by another 4 hot-swap bays.

Crap. I read your reply and the listing on Amazon like 8 times before I fully understood, lol. For some reason, when I read that they weren't included, my brain automatically assumed that they weren't required, and were optional. I get it now tho. Thank you!
