Do I need to use DYNDNS to access the FreeNAS GUI from outside my network? or can I just port forward through my router?

Under Settings --> WebGui Port, I entered the port #8080 and saved the config and then allowed port 8080 to forward to my internal IP through my router.

This doesn't seem to work. Any ideas on how to get this working?

Only if you don't have a static IP, or it generally stays the same and you know what it is. You shouldn't need to change the WebGUI port. You can config your router to the port you want to connect on and forward that port to the default port / Internal IP address of your NAS. You should configure a static IP on your local network for your NAS and not let it use DHCP.

It doesn't use DHCP, I gave it a static address. But I can't seem to give it any other port other than port 80. I tried with 8080 (something non-standard) and it won't work.
